* Millennium+10: Making the MDGs More Sustainable. Towards the MDG Summit
A series of meetings to prepare the upcoming MDG+10 Summit in New York has begun. A Special high-level event of UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) with the Bretton Woods institutions, the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), took place on 18-19 March 2010. Luxembourg’s Ambassador Jean Feyder, currently president of the Trade and Development Board used the occasion to present UNCTAD’s perspective. WDEV documents his statement.

* Lisbon Treaty and EU Development Cooperation. New treaty - new policy for development?
Three months ago, in December 2009, the Lisbon Treaty came into force. What difference will this make for European Union development co-operation and humanitarian assistance? Mirjam van Reisen identifies the changes in the legal framework and interprets what difference this will make for the policy in practice. Despite some progress, she concludes, many problems remain.

* Reconciling Climate and Livestock Production? FAO's latest State of Food and Agriculture report
The 2009 State of Food and Agriculture report was delayed for several months. After the disaster of Copenhagen, one could have expected it to provide the necessary guidance to policy changes for saving the Planet from further increases of greenhouse gases emitted from livestock that are estimated to be higher than from the transport sector. But FAO’s suggestions are comparable to rearranging deckchairs on the Titanic, Susanne Gura writes.

* The IMF’s Green Fund Proposal: A useful burden-sharing?
Just eight weeks after IMF Managing Director Dominique Strauss-Kahn ventured the expertise of his organization to help the international community to “think outside of the box” on climate financing, the IMF staff has delivered: Print-fresh from Washington’s 19th Street comes a short, but content-heavy paper by two IMF economists on how an international Green Fund partially financed by climate-SDRs could be set-up with the goal of generating some US$ 100 billion per year by 2010.
